Pattern: my own combination of Simplicity's Special Occasion Dress M4070, Colette's Macaron, and McCall's Top M6164 (because it has great hip shaping)

As I mentioned earlier, you can never have too many pretty dresses. My coworker calls them "night time clothes." Generally my night time uniform involves flannel and sweatpants (currently wearing), but when you're out with the girls you need something fun!
I first made a dress like this for my graduation. When I saw the Macaron pattern all I could think about was a sheer yoke balanced against the sweetheart neckline. At the time I couldn't find many good pictures of that type of garment, but I knew I had seen it somewhere. Now it is popping up a lot, including American Apparel, Asos, Urban Outfitters, and on celebrities. In the sewing world, you can check out the Wenlan Blouse, and I got some recent inspiration from fifuzz.
This dress I pulled together from remnants and a patchwork of different patterns. I used Wash-Away Wonder Tape to fold the raw edges of the bodice under, and then again to position it on the yoke.
The sleeves I stumbled upon by accident after I realized that one looked different from the other and realized I had sewn one on upside down. I liked the fluttery look of the upside down one better and repositioned it that way :)
